Our North Star

We believe something as simple as a hamburger can replenish your body + soul simultaneously. That’s why we say we’re not in the hamburger business, but in the mood boosting business.

The Hamburg Sandwich

The history of America’s favorite sandwich is a little unclear, but we do know that cultures all over the world have been mincing meat and forming it into patties for hundreds of years. Some time in the 1800s, the German Hamburg steak appeared on the scene— a patty made of minced beef, garlic, onions, and salt and pepper.

As German immigrants arrived in New York and Chicago, the dish found its way into restaurants and food carts. History gets even fuzzier at this point, but some genius eventually had the idea to put the patty between two slices of bread for meals on the go, and the Hamburg sandwich was born.

More Thank Great Burgers

Harriet’s is inspired by the kind of happiness that can only come from the simple things.

We’ve eaten stacks and stacks of hamburgers, slinged by the dozen at the diviest joints and fussed over one by one at the fanciest restaurants. What we’ve learned is this: simple is better.

We use a short list of premium ingredients and a tightly calibrated technique to make each and every one of our burgers as good and delicious as possible. Then we pair them with crispy, golden fries. And that’s it.

But that’s not all. We want to make you a really great hamburger of course. But we also want to make Harriet’s a place where everyone feels truly welcomed and inspires acts of simple kindness. We strive to put a little more good in the world. We could all do with a little extra kindness in our lives. At Harriet’s, you can always expect a friendly smile and a warm greeting to come with your meal.
